Sunday in Arizona
Departed Scottsdale this morning in a heavy cold rain. Going east we visit Tonto National Forest. Not many trees in the forest but there are amazing views and lots of cactus. Next we are granted safe passage through Fort Apache Indian Reservation. Let me tell ya, the Apache have one very beautiful place! The photos are on a section where the highway crosses the Salt River. Its really beautiful, the highway climbs up White Mountain then does a switchback down the canyon wall to the floor of the canyon, crosses Salt River then another switchback up the other side of the canyon wall back to the top of the mountain. We exit the Reservation and enter Sitgreaves National Forest. This pine forest is at a much higher elevation than Tonto and has lots of trees and snow. We decide to overnight in Show Low Az (EL 6500). Tomorrow is our last day to tour. We will visit the painted desert and the petrified forest. Hope the snow stops......
